5083 Sgt. E Amesbury (Manchester). For gallantry and devotion to duty. During the operations from 8th October to 11th November 1918, he had command of a platoon, which he led in action. At Le Cateau on 18th October, when taking over the Red Line, he consolidated his position under heavy machine-gun and artillery fire. Gazetted 11.3.20.
351803 Pte. F Andrew (Ashton under Lyne). For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when the men took a Lewis gun to an exposed shell-hole to get a better field of fire. They remained there for 12 hours, doing tremendous execution to the enemy and were largely responsible for breaking up the enemy attack and driving it off. Gazetted 3.9.18.
180 Cpl. S Bayley. For conspicuous bravery on the 7th and 9th August 1915 at cape Helles(Dardanelles). Cpl. Bayley remained with Lt. Forshaw VC; holding a barricade for forty-one hours continuously. On the evening of 8th August his party was relieved by another unit, but he volunteered to remain on. He displayed the greatest gallantry and endurance under the most trying circumstances in repelling many severe attacks and when the barricade was at last broken through he was the foremost in the successful counter-attack, led by Lt. Forshaw, which regained it and finally retained it. On being ultimately relieved he was utterly exhausted by his arduous and gallant work of bomb-throwing. Gazetted 16.11.15.
352520 Pte. A Beech (Stockport). For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in command of his platoon after his platoon officer and all the NCOs were killed or wounded. He reorganised it and held on to the position, in spite of very heavy shelling. Gazetted 6.2.18.
9648 Sgt. G Coombes (Manchester). For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on 8th October 1918. During the advance to the second objective near the village of Serain his company had suffered many casualties through cross-fire from enemy machine guns and when the objective was gained all the company officers had become casualties. He promptly reorganised the company, laid out the system of defence and consolidated the position with the men he had left until relieved by another company. It was greatly due to his initiative, determination and cheerful encouragement of the men that the position was maintained at a critical moment with a minimum of loss. Gazetted 2.12.19.
1792 L/Cpl A Davies. For conspicuous gallantry when covering a retirement under a very heavy fire at a few yards range. Gazetted 21.6.16.
351023 Sgt. F Dickinson (Dukinfield). For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When his platoon officer and most of the platoon had been killed or wounded, he rallied the men of his own and other units and held the line successfully against a counter-attack. Gazetted 6.2.18.
353034 Sgt. P Farrell (Huddersfield). For conspicuous gallantry and evotion to duty at all times. On one occasion his platoon dug-out was blown in and several casualties were caused. Although badly shaken himself, he assisted to dig out the wounded and refused medical help until all his men had been cleared.
969 Sgt H Grantham. For conspicuous gallantry and ability south of Krithia, Gallipoli Peninsula, when making a reconnaissance of the enemy’s new trenches under very dangerous circumstances. He gained valuable information and located the hostile positions. Gazetted 15.9.15.
1623 Sgt J Greenhalgh. For conspicuous gallantry when covering a retirement under very heavy fire at a few yards range. Gazetted 21.6.16.
350202 Pte. J Hibbert (Ashton under Lyne). For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during a raid on the enemy’s trenches. When an enemy machine gun opened fire on the right of the raiding party he rushed it with an NCO and another man, killed the detachment and captured the gun. His prompt and courageous action was of the greatest assistance to the raiding party. Gazetted 1.5.18.
350239 Sgt J Horsfield (Ashton under Lyne). For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This acting WO has done excellent work with his company during six months operations, and has shown a fine offensive spirit on dangerous patrol duty. Gazetted 21.10.18.
350367 Pte. A Latham (Birmingham). For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during a raid on the enmey’s trenches. When an enemy machine gun opened fire on the right of the raiding party, he rushed it with an NCO, and another man, killed the detachmentand capture dthe gun. His prompt and courageous action was of the greatest assistance to the raiding party. Gazetted 1.5.18.
1083 Pte. S Littleford. For conspicuous gallantry in flinging a lighted bomb over the parapet and thus probably saving many casualties. He was himself wounded in the arm by the explosion. Gazetted 21.6.16.
350219 Cpl. R May. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He did very good work during lengthy operations, invariably displaying courage and resource.

350714 Pte. J. Moss (Ashton under Lyne). For conspicuous gallantry and evotion to duty. After all the officers and NCOs had become casualties, he took command of the platoon which had been badly disorganised and reorganised and led it for many days in continuous action with the greatest bravery and powers of leadership. Time after time he ralied men of other units and took charge of them. His fine work was beyond all praise. Gazetted 3.9.18.
351191 A/CSM J. W. Peagram (Ashton under Lyne). For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in going from shell hole to shell hole, under heavy fire, to keep up men’s spirits. Later on, in charge of 100 men, after all the officers and NCOs had become casualties, he succeeded in repelling a counter-attack. Gazetted 6.2.18.
2148 L/Cpl. S Pearson. For conspicuous gallantry on the 7th and 8th August 1915 at Gallipoli, when acting as a look-out man and sniper. He displayed great bravery and skill and although enfiladed from both flanks he remained at his post and by his example gave great encouragement to all with him. Gazetted 11.3.16.
2103 L/Cpl. T Pickford. For conspicuous gallantry on the 8th August 1915 at Gallipoli, when he rallied his party, which had been driven in by bombs in the Barricade of the Vineyard, and by his bravery and example was largely instrumental in saving a precarious position. Gazetted 11.3.16.
